In addition to excellent walking activities, Volkssport offers many possibilities for discovery, voluntarism and social activities. To find a walking club near you, please check our Clubs pages. For our schedule of regular events in December, please click here.

Most Volkssport walks in urban areas highlight local features and events, especially historic events. A recent walk by the Dartmouth Volksmarch Club, led by Sue Banks [on right] passed by the Memorial Bell Tower commemorating the Halifax Explosion on Dec. 6, 1917. Some 2,000 people were killed, 9,000 injured, and communities on both sides of Halifax harbour were devastated when two ships, one laden with war munitions, collided. Photos submitted by Gary Grant.
